It is the end of fall semester 2020! I am so happy I was able to make it through. The good: I received three A's. I was pretty certain I'd get a B in biology so I was very happy to see I did well enough on the final to bump it just that much more. I learned a lot in my classes. Speech class helped me feel a bit better about being on camera and I got a couple video editing tools to help. This will aid me in future projects. Also it gave me some content for this website and for YouTube. Ethics class involved a lot of discussion and I most enjoyed the extra articles we had to read. If I had more time during the semester I probably would have posted about some here on my website. Biology was great because it's one of my favorite subjects and I learned some of the basic content that will be the foundation of my research in the future. I hope I will feel similarly in the next semester. The Bad: I thought I would end up with a B in chemistry but it dropped to a C after my final exam. This is due to several factors including time constraints, a teaching style versus learning style mismatch, and a test taking style versus test making style mismatch. (I.e. one could not go back to previous questions after moving past the page - different questions on each page though there were 4 to a page for the final at least. I tend to make dumb mistakes that going back and re-reading a question before submitting would easily fix. I can verify 32 points worth of mistakes over all exams I realized I had made halfway through said exams.) Chemistry was not an easy class for me by any means. The labs were really fun and helped cement a lot of the concepts, but it was not easy to memorize the equations and when to use them and how to use them. I lost a lot of motivation towards the end because if I started a test feeling like I understood something, the best I would get is a C. I have a feeling though that this next semester will go differently. Working full time and doing school full time is too difficult for me. I am working on a solution to increase my success while decreasing my stress. And the solution starts with me doing a bit of extra work before the next semester starts. Next semester I will be taking Calculus 1, Applied Statistics, Chemistry 2, and Biology 2. I hear one of the main reasons people fail Calculus is a lack of understanding of the mathematical basics, so I'm going over some of the simple things that are definitely present in calculus ranging from exponents and fractions to maneuvering polynomials and understanding trig functions. I have all of my textbooks already for all of my classes and I feel like that will make a big difference in my ability to succeed for at least the first month of the semester. Signing off!
